Out of all the casino games, Caribbean Stud is one of the easiest to master, as there is very little in terms of strategy that you need to remember. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this Caribbean Stud Poker guide, we explain the basic rules, payouts, and hand rankings of the game, along with the few pieces of strategy you need to know to play Caribbean Stud optimally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s start with the basics: what Caribbean Stud Poker is and how it is played.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is Caribbean Stud Poker?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Caribbean Stud Poker is a casino version of Five Card Stud, a poker game that was very popular in the 70s and 80s.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main difference between Five Card Stud and Caribbean Stud Poker is that the latter is played against the house, rather than other poker players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In each hand of Caribbean Stud, the player and the dealer are both dealt five cards. If the hand goes to showdown, the cards are compared based on standardized poker hand rankings<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caribbean Stud is played with a standard playing deck of 52 cards, no joker cards, and no further twists to basic gameplay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike games like 4 Card Poker<\/a> and Ultimate Texas Hold\u2019em<\/a>, where multiple side bets are available, Caribbean Stud has only a few basic betting options.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be dealt into a hand of Caribbean Stud, you must place an Ante bet. Once your five cards are dealt, you can fold your cards or place a further Raise bet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to these two bets, Caribbean Stud Poker typically offers a Progressive Jackpot bet, which usually costs $1 per hand, and can land you a juicy jackpot if you are dealt a royal flush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ante Bet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Ante bet is the most basic bet in Caribbean Stud Poker, and it is the only bet you have to make in order to be dealt in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before any cards are dealt, all players at the table are asked to place their bets. You can bet anywhere between the table minimum and maximum on the Ante bet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the Ante is active, you will be dealt cards and asked whether you wish to Raise. If you do place a Raise, and the hand goes to showdown, the Ante bet will pay anytime you beat the dealer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether the dealer qualifies or not, your Ante bet will pay exactly 1:1, as long as your hand is better than the dealer\u2019s. If your hand is identical to the dealer\u2019s, the Ante bet will push. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Raise Bet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Once the cards are dealt, you are given your only option in Caribbean Stud Poker. You can either fold your cards, forfeiting your bets and abandoning the hand, or place a Raise bet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you choose to Raise, you must bet exactly 2x your Ante bet. Once the bet is active, the hand goes to showdown, and the dealer reveals their cards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To qualify, the dealer must have at least an Ace-King hand or better. If the dealer does not qualify, your Raise bet will result in a push.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Progressive Jackpot Bet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Progressive Jackpot side bet is available in most versions of Caribbean Stud Poker. To activate it, place a $1 chip in the Progressive Jackpot field, regardless of your Ante amount.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you activate the Progressive Jackpot, you will be due for the jackpot payout. To trigger it, you will need to make a royal flush. If you do, you will receive the full Progressive Jackpot amount. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most Caribbean Stud versions, there are also some consolation prizes to look forward to. These might include a $50 payout for a flush, $100 for a full house, $500 for four of a kind, and 10% of the jackpot for a straight flush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep in mind that all of these hands are quite hard to make, as there is no drawing or extra cards in Caribbean Stud Poker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once a Progressive Jackpot is won, its value is reset to the seed value, which may be $10,000 or more, depending on the casino you are playing at. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Playing a Hand of Caribbean Stud Poker<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you have never played Caribbean Stud Poker before, simply knowing what the bets and payouts are may not be enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below, we will walk you through a hand of Caribbean Stud Poker, from the moment you sit down at the table, all the way to the showdown and final payouts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Place Your Bets: <\/strong>The first step in playing Caribbean Stud Poker is to place your bets. Before any cards are dealt, you must place an Ante bet, and you can place the Progressive Jackpot bet if you choose to do so.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Get Your Cards: <\/strong>Next up, you will receive five cards. All cards are dealt face down in Caribbean Stud, except for one of the dealer\u2019s cards, which is exposed to the players right away.     The basic Caribbean Stud Poker strategy is quite simple, and you can pick it up immediately by remembering a few simple rules. These rules will guarantee you always get the best possible outcome from every hand, and even if you make slight mistakes, your bottom line will not suffer too badly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    However, if you blindly raise with every hand you are dealt, and you ignore the rules we presented here, the house edge will go up significantly, and you will end up costing yourself money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
