This system uses a complex yet effective formula that aligns with the unique nature of poker decision-making and gameplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like ELO in chess, the adapted poker ELO rating is not a measure of the player\u2019s absolute strength. It is designed to adjust the player\u2019s rating after every decision by comparing their performance against expected outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Poker ELO formula used by PeakGTO is: <strong>E\u2019 = E + B + EMC,<\/strong> where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>E:<\/strong> Current ELO rating of player A before the action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>E\u2019:<\/strong> New ELO rating of player A after the action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B:<\/strong> Best answer factor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EMC: <\/strong>Expected mistake calculation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The first two items are self-explanatory. <strong>E <\/strong>is the rating that you have currently, while <strong>E\u2019 <\/strong>is the resulting rating, which is calculated based on the formula. The other two are key ingredients, and we\u2019ll now explain them in more detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expected Mistake Calculation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the two elements in the rating formula, the EMC carries the most weight because it determines how costly a mistake is to the player\u2019s ELO rating. To accomplish this, it uses the following formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EMC = [-K x (Mev &#8211; Aev)], <\/strong>where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>K:<\/strong> Scaling factor, possibly dynamic based on current ranking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mev\u200b:<\/strong> Max EV of the best answer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aev:<\/strong> Actual EV of the chosen answer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>K<\/strong>\u2019 is a scaling factor that depends on the player\u2019s rating to start the hand. This means that a higher-rated player can receive a bigger penalty for an error than a lower-rated one. This is a foundation of ELO-based systems, which take into account the player\u2019s expected skill level when determining the impact of a particular outcome, whether the result of the game (in chess) or the expected outcome of a decision (in poker).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018Mev\u2019 <\/strong>stands for the maximum EV of the best answer, i.e., the highest expected value of the best GTO play, while \u2018<strong>Aev\u2019<\/strong> is the expected value of the decision selected by the player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you have three options to choose from, where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raising has the expected value of 2bb<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Folding always has an EV of 0bb<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling has the expected value of 0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Raising is the best option, as it yields the best value. If you choose to call instead, your EMC would be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EMC = -Kx(2-0)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As explained previously, \u2018K\u2019 is a scaling factor, so it will change as your rating increases or declines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth noting that the score also depends on the action&#8217;s frequency. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Actions with frequency > 15% receive no EMC penalty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actions with frequency 5-15% get a capped -5 penalty instead of the tier-based WAF<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EMC Max Impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Expected Mistake Calculation Max Impact is a number introduced to the system to prevent one mistake from tanking a player\u2019s ELO rating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The formula to calculate the Max Impact is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If EMC &gt; WAF, Then EMCmax, else EMC<\/strong>, where<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WAF \u2013 Worst Answer Factor, determined by the current rating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>EMCmax \u2013 The maximum value of the expected mistake calculation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This system accounts for the player\u2019s current rating, ensuring that a single mistake doesn\u2019t have a significant impact on their overall score.
