The term chop in poker glossary is used when talking about a pot that is split between two or more players. This usually happens on a showdown, when the players have the same exact hand.
Say the board runs out 9-9-9-5-A. One player turns over AK, and the other shows AT. They both have the exact same hand in the showdown, Nines Full of Aces, which means that they both win. Thus, this is a chop, and they are both entitled to half a pot
Another term used to describe this situation is a split pot.
You’ll also sometimes encounter the expression chop when players are talking about chopping blinds in cash games. Sometimes, when the action folds to the small blind, the small blind and the big blind will agree to chop the pot without playing the hand.
