What Changed for Sweepstakes Poker in Tennessee
Sweepstakes poker was one of the few ways to play online in Tennessee. In about five months, the state shut it down.
- May 2026. Governor Bill Lee signed SB 2136 and HB 1885, now Public Chapter 1117, on May 22. It took effect the same day. Running or promoting online sweepstakes games that use two currencies to simulate slots, poker or table games is now a violation of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act. The law gives the Attorney General and the Sports Wagering Council more power to investigate. It’s aimed at operators and the people who promote them. We couldn’t find a Tennessee law aimed at players who gamble online, but we aren’t lawyers.

Can I Play PokerStars, WSOP or GGPoker in Tennessee?
No. PokerStars, WSOP Online and BetMGM Poker only run in states that license online poker, and Tennessee only licenses mobile sports betting, daily fantasy and the lottery. GGPoker doesn’t accept US players at all.
