What Changed for Sweepstakes Poker in Louisiana
Sweepstakes poker rooms started leaving Louisiana in 2025. In 2026 the state made it law.
- August 2026. Both new laws took effect on August 1.
- May 2026. Governor Jeff Landry signed HB 883, now Act 182, on May 15. It extends the state’s gambling by computer law to online games that use two currencies. He signed HB 53, now Act 48, on May 11, which makes gambling crimes part of the racketeering law, with reported exposure of up to 50 years and $1 million in fines for operators. Reports on the new law list slots, table games, bingo and lottery-style games. We couldn’t confirm from the bill text whether peer-to-peer poker is named. In practice it doesn’t change much, since none of the sweepstakes rooms on our list accepts Louisiana.
The gambling by computer law has always been aimed at people who run online gambling as a business. We haven’t seen anything in the 2026 changes that targets players, but we aren’t lawyers.

Can I Play PokerStars, WSOP or GGPoker in Louisiana?
No. PokerStars, WSOP Online and BetMGM Poker only run in states that license online poker, and Louisiana isn’t one of them. GGPoker doesn’t accept US players at all.
