Is Online Poker Legal in Wisconsin in 2026?

No, Wisconsin doesn’t license any online poker sites. The state legalized online sports betting through the tribes in April 2026, but poker wasn’t part of it. Sweepstakes rooms such as ClubWPT Gold and Stake.us accept Wisconsin players, and so does the offshore site CoinPoker.

CoinPoker is an offshore poker site. It runs cash games and tournaments around the clock, and you can deposit by card or crypto.

ClubWPT Gold is the World Poker Tour’s sweepstakes poker site. It’s the room here built purely around poker, under a name most players already know.

Stake.us is a sweepstakes casino with a poker room. It runs on the usual two-currency sweepstakes model and suits players who want poker and casino games under one account.

The current offers and codes are in the boxes above.

CoinPoker is an offshore site. It isn’t licensed by Wisconsin or any other US state, so no state regulator can help you if you have a dispute. Only deposit what you’re comfortable having on a site without state oversight.

How Sweepstakes Poker Works

Sweepstakes poker sites run on two currencies. Gold Coins are for fun and have no cash value. Sweeps Coins come free with Gold Coin packages, as daily bonuses or by mail-in request, and the Sweeps Coins you win can be redeemed for cash prizes.

Because you never have to buy anything to get Sweeps Coins, the operators say they’re running promotional sweepstakes, not gambling. That’s how they work in states like Wisconsin that don’t license online poker.

ClubWPT Gold works differently. It moved away from the two-coin setup in 2025 and now uses a single currency called Chips, tied to a poker training membership.

Wisconsin hasn’t passed a law on sweepstakes games, and we couldn’t find any enforcement against them. Neighbors Illinois and Michigan have both taken action against sweepstakes sites, so this is one to watch.

The games themselves feel like normal online poker. Our sweepstakes poker guide explains the model in more detail and covers every site we’ve reviewed.

What Changed for Online Poker in Wisconsin

Wisconsin passed a major gambling law this year. It just didn’t include poker.

  • April 2026. Gov. Tony Evers signed AB 601, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 247. It lets people bet on sports online from anywhere in the state, as long as the bets run through servers on tribal land. All 11 tribes backed it. Source, Wisconsin Examiner, April 10, 2026
  • April 2026. Evers said the tribes should decide how to run it and backed a joint venture where every tribe shares equally. DraftKings and FanDuel objected to the revenue terms, and the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty argues the law is unconstitutional. Source, WPR via Urban Milwaukee, April 10, 2026

Online sports betting still isn’t live. The tribes need new or amended compacts, and the federal government has to approve them.

Poker and online casino games weren’t in Act 247, and we couldn’t find any bill since that would add them. Wisconsin’s constitution only lets the tribes run casino games, so any online poker would have to come through them too.

Wisconsin’s general gambling law is in Chapter 945 of the statutes. It was written for in-person games, and we couldn’t find a case of the state going after an online poker player. We aren’t lawyers, so treat that as background, not advice.

Can I Play PokerStars, WSOP or GGPoker in Wisconsin?

No. PokerStars, WSOP Online and BetMGM Poker only run in states that license online poker, and Wisconsin isn’t one of them. GGPoker doesn’t accept US players at all.

If you travel, you can play on licensed sites while you’re physically inside a state that has them. Michigan is right next door and has several licensed poker sites. See our Michigan poker guide.

Live Poker in Wisconsin

Live poker is legal at tribal casinos. There are no commercial casinos in Wisconsin. These tribal casinos list poker rooms.

  • Potawatomi Casino Hotel in Milwaukee
  • Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison in Madison
  • Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells in Baraboo
  • Oneida Casino in Green Bay
  • St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake in Turtle Lake

The minimum age is 21 at most casinos. A few tribal properties admit 18 year olds for some games, so check with the casino before you go.

Will Wisconsin Legalize Online Poker?

Not soon. Online sports betting needed all 11 tribes on board, and it still hasn’t launched.

Online poker would need another law and another round of compact talks, and no lawmaker has filed one since Act 247 passed. If the sports betting model works, poker could be a natural next ask for the tribes, but nobody has said so publicly.

We check this page every month and we’ll update it the day that changes.
