Tight Definition – Learn What Is Tight in Poker

In poker, the term “tight” describes a player who plays a very cautious and timid style, only getting involved with very strong hands.

Although the term has a somewhat negative connotation, there are different types of tight players.

Tight-aggressive players (TAGs), for example, are generally considered good players, not like NITs. They play a reasonably tight style, but they still know when to bluff and how to extract value from their medium-strength hands.

Tight-passive players, on the other hand, are considered weak. They lack the required level of aggression to succeed in poker and are usually satisfied with letting other players drive the action and call them down with strong hands, folding the rest.
