A bomb pot in poker is a pot in which all players at the table put a certain agreed upon amount of money into the pot before cards are dealt. Then, all cards are dealt as usual, and the dealer proceeds to deal the flop immediately. The betting action then starts from the flop.
For example, players in a Texas Hold’em $2/$5 cash game can agree to play a $25 bomb pot, where every player posts $25. In a six-handed game, this would create a pot of $150, and all six players will get their hole cards.
After this, the dealer will spread the flop, and the betting action starts. As always, betting begins with the player in the small blind position.
Bomb pots help generate action by creating unusual spots with multiple players and completely undefined ranges, as there is no betting preflop.
