Re-Buy Definition – Learn What Is a Re-Buy in Poker

The term re-buy in poker is used primarily in tournaments that allow players to buy additional chips when they lose their entire stack or after they fall under a certain threshold.

Earlier, rebuy tournaments were quite popular since, unlike freezeouts, they gave players more shots and allowed them to play more aggressively. In recent years, with the arrival of reentries, rebuy tournaments have almost completely disappeared.

You’ll also come across the expression re-buy in cash game poker. In this context, a re-buy is when a player buys more chips, either after losing their stack after a bad beat or simply to add more money to what they already have in front of them.
