The poker term muck can have a couple of similar but different meanings, depending on whether you use it as a noun or as a verb.
When used as a noun, the muck describes the pile of all discarded and folded cards. Once your cards hit the muck, you’re out of hand and no longer have a shot at winning the pot.
As a verb, to muck means the same as to fold. So, when you muck your hand, you fold. You could say something like, “I called a raise preflop, and another player joined the action, so we got to the postflop street three-handed, and I flopped the middle pair, but when the original raiser continued and the button called, I decided to muck my hand.”
