The term orbit in poker describes a complete round of hands, where every player at the table got to play every position.
For example, John is in a button position, and he announces he’ll play for one more orbit. Once the button is returned to John, the orbit is completed, and he leaves.
An orbit is often used to determine when games will change at mixed game tables. In poker tournaments, players are also often issued penalties in terms of orbits. So, if a player is given two orbits’ penalty, this means blinds will have to go through them twice before they’re allowed to take their seat again.
