The term string bet in poker refers to a situation in which a player doesn’t declare their betting amount verbally and uses multiple motions to place their chips into the pot.
String bets are considered an underhanded tactic and a form of angle shooting designed to provoke a reaction in other players. For this reason, they are frowned upon and generally not allowed in most poker rooms.
For example, if you want to bet $1,000, you should put all of the chips into the pot at the same time. If you move this amount in increments, you should state the total amount upfront before moving any chips. Otherwise, it’s considered a string bet, and only the first part of the bet will be counted.
