Call Definition – Learn What Is a Call in Poker

A call in poker is a term that describes an action of matching the bet made by the player(s) who had already acted.

For example, in a $1/$2 Texas Hold’em game, a player raises from a UTG position to $6. The player on the button announces a call, matching the UTG raise and putting $6 into the pot. If players in the blind decide to fold or also make a call, the action ends for that street of betting.

In a live game, a player can announce their intention to make a call verbally by simply saying, “I call.” They can also do it by throwing a single chip into the middle or by counting out and matching the exact bet or raise size.
