The term gutshot in poker is an abbreviation for a gutshot straight draw or an inside straight draw. This is a type of a draw that can only be filled by four cards that fall in the middle.
For example, you’re holding 6-7 on a board reading 3-4-K. In this instance, you have a gutshot straight draw because only a 5 in the middle can complete the draw and give you the straight.
When you have a gutshot, you only have four outs to make your straight, which makes this one of the weakest draws in Texas Hold’em. On the other hand, when they do come in, they can be powerful, as your opponents might have a hard time putting you on this exact poker hand.
