The popular poker term straddle refers to an additional blind posted by one of the players to generate more action.
The most common type of straddle is the UTG straddle, posted by the player to the immediate left of the big blind. Posting the straddle effectively doubles the stakes for the hand, but it gives the posting player the right to act last before the flop.
There are also other types of straddles you’ll come across in poker cash games. One of the more popular ones is a button straddle, which is posted by the player on the button.
In this situation, the preflop action begins with the player in the small blind and moves around the table as normal throughout all of positions, with the button player closing the action. Learn more about poker straddles.
